Die Stadtgärtner – Flower Marbles and Seed Bombs for Little Gardeners

Throw a marble, water it, wait – and then check every morning to see if anything is sprouting: Flower Marbles turn every balcony box and every garden corner into a small nature adventure. Wildflowers grow from the colourful seed balls, which also delight bees and butterflies.

Behind the brand are Torge, Derk and Jan – their initials form the “TDJ” in the company name. In 2011, they rolled their first seed bombs on a Hamburg balcony as a small green rebellion against the urban grey. Today, the products are made on a farm in Nordhorn – rolled by hand, much of it in collaboration with social workshops.

FAQ - Häufige Fragen

Who is behind Die Stadtgärtner?

The three founders Torge, Derk and Jan– hence the "TDJ" in the company name – rolled their first seed bombs on a balcony in Hamburg in 2011. Today, the brand is based on a farm in Nordhorn, Germany.

What are flower marbles?

Small, colorful Seed Bombs: Wildflower seeds, encased in soil and clay, rolled into marbles. Throw, place, or give them away – wherever they land and get water, wildflowers will grow.

How do I make the flower marbles bloom?

Simply place on loose soil – in a bed, window box or pot – do not bury, water well and keep moist. With warmth and sun, the first seedlings will appear after a few days.

When is the best time to apply?

Ideally from spring to early summer, as soon as there is no longer a risk of night frosts. This way, the wildflowers have the entire season to grow and bloom.

What grows out of the marbles?

A colorful wildflower mix– and with it a small buffet for bees, bumblebees and butterflies. Which flowers will sprout remains a lovely surprise.

Are flower marbles suitable for children?

Yes – they are a wonderfully simple first gardening experience: throw, water, observe. Important: The marbles are not a toy and should not be put in the mouth – so it's best to let small children garden together.
